i wrote a letter (and this is what it says...)
i sent this to the President, my Senators and my Representative, so i figured i should post it here for all to see.
here goes:
Mr. President, (and for that matter, Mr. Senators, and Representative Markey)
I am a concerned citizen. Recently I have heard reports that an executive with Armor Holdings, Inc. a month ago told our Army that his company could increase production of armor for our Military’s Humvees by as much as Twenty-Two Percent (22%)! AM General, the company that actually manufactures the plates concurred with this estimate! When I heard this news, I was uplifted knowing that our fine men and women in the ever escalating conflict in Iraq would be much better protected. Unfortunately the other shoe fell, (as was almost expected at this point) as I came to find out that the pentagon has yet to put forth the order for the increased production. It has also come to my attention (Via the Associated Press) that although the military estimates we need almost Twenty-Two Thousand (22,000) armored Humvees in the warzone, we are still nearly Seven Thousand (7,000) short of that estimate. You can imagine how disheartened this makes me, seeing as it has been nearly two years since the war started.
Congress has appropriated billions of dollars to help protect our soldiers, yet, where is it being spent if not on proper armor? I implore you to please take action to rectify this situation, especially if the peace-keeping effort that anyone can see coming to fruition, after the Iraqi elections, is to be successful.
With Grave Concern,
