wish there was somthing real, wish there was something true (in this world full of you...)
(insert charlie brown "arrrrrrgh" here) Religion and politics in America (i swear the polls that are taken are not truly representative of the populace at large. Polling the bible belt "as much" as the rest of the country is going to taint the polling. The population in the bible belt is sparse compared to such places as say, um, NYC & LA. And i bet they are only polling "likely voters" which is a catagory that i, laughably, do not fall into. They are polling a biased cross-section, that happens to be misrepresentative, about a bias. Again, i say "arrrrrrgh")
If you can't tell, i feverantly disagree with the article's point that "Americans are a deeply religious people." i don't think i know more than three people in my age group (18-30) that even believes that a god exists (and i am one of the three that believes) never mind any that actively take part in religion.
i think that it is this greivous misconception that gets us in such perilous position with radical offshoots of non-christian religions. For every christian in america there is a Muslim, Jew, Athiest, Buddist, Wiccan, Nihilist, Satanist, Apathist... yadda yadda yadda... Why can't we allow for "the great melting pot" to be a "melting pot"?
By the way, in case there was any misconception, Christ is not my savior, nor do i practice any form of recognized religion.
